Harrison girls golf wins City/County tournament ahead of sectionals

West Lafayette's Harrison High School girls golf team emerged victorious in the City/County tournament on September 16, 2023, at Coyote Crossing, setting the stage for their upcoming sectional contest. Six teams participated in the event, including Central Catholic, Faith Christian, Harrison, Lafayette Jeff, McCutcheon, and West Lafayette.

McCutcheon's Jaylee Gibb dominated the individual standings with a score of 39 (+3) over nine holes. Harrison's Sydney Gehlsen and Nola Painter secured the next two spots with scores of 41 each. West Lafayette's Emily Boaz, and Harrison's Avery Wills rounded out the top five individual scores at 42, 43 respectively. Harrison's total score of 169 secured their championship win, with McCutcheon following closely at 188.

Both Gehlsen and Painter were pleased with their performances but felt they could have done better, particularly in their putting. The Raiders' familiarity with the Coyote Crossing course provided them with an advantage in the sectional competition, which begins on September 21, 2023.
