First Nations youth continue fight over Carney’s major projects agenda, summit

Canadian politicians were showcasing their major projects plans to foreign investors at a groundbreaking summit in Toronto, while First Nations youth in Ottawa were rallying Canadians to join their cause in opposing these plans. Jeronimo Kataquapit and his cousin Ramon recently returned from a week-long expedition near James Bay, where they witnessed polar bears, geese, and caribou while documenting First Nations presence on the land and waterways.

The Kataquapit family opposes the development of the mineral-rich Ring of Fire, a major project that the provincial and federal government intends to pursue. Jeronimo expressed his frustration with the current government's approach, stating that they should not be treated as mere statistics or sources of profit. The Together for Nature Tour, organized by Ontario Nature and Legal Advocates for Nature's Defence, aims to unite Indigenous and non-Indigenous Canadians in protecting the environment and opposing Carney's major projects agenda.

The youth involved in this movement warn that developments could irreversibly damage the landscapes and waterways they have known and depended upon for generations.
