Fertiliser company MD released on MACC bail

The managing director of a fertiliser supplier has been released on bail from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) after being held for four days, following delays in distributing fertiliser to padi farmers in Kedah. The man, in his 30s, was released yesterday and must now report to the Kedah MACC office monthly, with the possibility of further questioning if required.

The investigation into the fertiliser distribution delays was initiated by Kedah MACC on September 7, following a complaint from Pertubuhan Persaudaraan Pesawah Malaysia on August 26 about the delays affecting 100,000 hectares under the Muda Agricultural Development Authority. MACC chief commissioner Abd Halim Aman had previously stated that the agency might involve the agriculture and food security minister and his secretary-general over the matter.
