Curbs on flyover, days after it was unveiled, has Goa commuters fuming

Just over a week after the new six-lane elevated flyover in Goa's Porvorim was inaugurated and opened to traffic, authorities are facing fierce backlash for imposing restrictions. One of these includes banning two-wheelers from using the flyover and closing off entry and exit points towards the Atal Setu bridge. This came just two days after the flyover opened to the public.

The restrictions were imposed following a fatal collision on the flyover where a speeding car hit a scooter and a truck from behind, killing two people. The Goa government claimed the move was necessary to assess traffic flow and operational performance of the new corridor. However, this has angered commuters, especially those using the flyover as a major bypass route. The closure of the main exit leading to Panaji has led to traffic chaos and anger among commuters.
