Barker-Vormawor raises concerns over alleged arrest of nurse linked to Ghana Jollof TikTok account

Lawyer and social activist Oliver Barker-Vormawor has expressed serious concerns over the reported arrest of Salomey Awity Bafoh, a 40-year-old nurse from Techiman. Ms Bafoh was reportedly taken from her home in Hansua, Bono East Region, by individuals claiming to be National Security operatives. Her family denies any connection to the "Ghana Jollof" TikTok account, which has criticized President John Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama.

The Regional Police and National Security officials claim they had no prior knowledge of her arrest. Barker-Vormawor questioned the sudden accusation of treason against a nurse who had never been to Accra and stressed that such a serious allegation requires compelling evidence and professional judgment. He warned that treason allegations can portray an individual as a threat to Ghana's constitutional order and urged the President to hold accountable any senior officers involved in the decision-making process.

Barker-Vormawor also cautioned against using national security considerations to justify poor professional judgment and expressed concern about the state's priorities, suggesting that social media commentators were being pursued with greater urgency than other pressing issues affecting the country.
