They assure that people could trust that their issues would be addressed. "As State Premiers, we will together with the Chancellor make our contribution to that," the statement emphasizes. This follows after some hesitation from CSU leader and Bavarian State Premier Markus Söder, who had explicitly expressed his support for Merz and urged the CDU to stop internal personnel discussions about the Chancellor.

After various CDU politicians had led a primarily party and domestic politics debate about Merz in recent days, the eight CDU State Premiers now stress that Germany will need "a stable and capable federal government with its own majority in the Bundestag" in the future. They point out that parliamentary elections will take place in Poland, Italy, Spain, and Greece next year, with uncertain outcomes. "All the more will a stable and strong Germany in united Europe count."
