TV reporter and pilot who died in Los Angeles helicopter crash were covering a story

On Tuesday evening, a local news helicopter en route to cover a bus and SUV collision in Los Angeles tragically crashed, resulting in the deaths of three people. The aircraft, operated by NBC4, was en route to report on the bus crash, which had occurred earlier in the day and claimed the lives of two individuals. The helicopter, piloted by George Marciniw and operated by Eliana Moreno, came down in the Chatsworth area of the San Fernando Valley around 7pm local time.

Moreno, an aerial photojournalist, and Marciniw, the pilot, were among the three fatalities. Additionally, a pedestrian near the crash site lost their life. NBC4 news anchor Coleen Williams confirmed the identities of the deceased during a live broadcast, identifying Moreno and Marciniw as the two colleagues who perished. Authorities are currently investigating the incident, with the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration leading the inquiry.

The city of Los Angeles, led by Mayor Karen Bass, expressed deep sorrow for the tragedy, describing it as a "very, very, very tragic day" for the city. Five Angelenos lost their lives in the incident, including members of the NBC4 team who were fulfilling their journalistic duties.
