Police confirm body found in Perak waters is missing angler

Shah Alam, on September 16, the police have verified that the body discovered floating in the waters near Hutan Melintang, Perak, is one of the three anglers reported missing since Monday. ACP Ramsay Embol from Klang Utara police confirmed the identity of the deceased as Mohd Sharil Abd Rahman, 43, based on identification by relatives.

The search and rescue team received information from fishermen regarding the finding around 8:30 am, which was then handed over to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) for further steps. The body is scheduled to be transferred to Shah Alam Hospital for additional procedures, according to Ramsay. The ongoing joint search and rescue mission, involving the Royal Malaysia Police, MMEA, Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, Malaysian Civil Defence Force, and other relevant agencies, aims to locate the other two missing victims.

Updates on the operation are expected to be provided periodically. Earlier, Deputy Klang Utara police chief Supt Mohd Rahimi Zainol reported that the body, bound to a drum and wearing a life jacket, was found in the waters off Bagan Sungai Belukang, Perak. Survivors claimed that all victims secured themselves to drums following their boat capsizing near One Fathom Bank in the Straits of Malacca on Monday.

Selangor MMEA initiated the SAR operation at 3:35 am on Monday following reports of seven missing anglers. Four were successfully rescued and treated at Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital and Banting Hospital on Tuesday, identified as Mohd Shairazi Abdul Aziz, 43; Mohd Rizal Mohamad Sadali, 45; Muhd Hamiszar Punirain, 45; and Zulfikalnain Awang, 47.

Two anglers remain missing, namely Muhamad Ridzuan Ruhaizat, 37, and Raja Mohd Rozi Raja Mohamad, 49.
