NPP demands apology or dismissal of Haruna Iddrisu over Chinese, Arabic language policy dispute

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has demanded either an apology from President John Dramani Mahama or the dismissal of Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu following a dispute over the introduction of Arabic and Chinese languages into Ghana's school curriculum. The party's Education Sector Policy Committee issued a statement clarifying that the president's denial of introducing new policies contradicted Iddrisu's announcement, which attributed the policy to Mahama's vision for education.

NPP argues that if Iddrisu acted unilaterally without presidential and Cabinet approval, Mahama must dismiss him; however, if Iddrisu acted with presidential or Cabinet approval, Mahama must apologize to the Ghanaian people for allegedly denying the policy his government had initiated. The NPP questions the expenditure of public resources on the curriculum development and teacher training, citing the existing shortage of French language teachers and the optional status of Arabic and Chinese languages at the basic school level.
