New MyKad gets transparent window, dual-interface chip

The Malaysian national registration department (JPN) has introduced the upgraded MyKad, featuring a transparent window and a dual-interface chip. According to a Facebook post, the new MyKad also includes a dynamic security hologram and a QR code. These advancements make the new-generation MyKad more modern and bolster its security with the latest features, the department stated.

The MyKad is crafted from high-durability polycarbonate, engineered to withstand bending, snapping, or cracking over extended daily use. Intricate fine geometric line work, known as guilloche patterns, and rainbow printing that changes color tones based on the viewing angle are also part of the new design. Personal details, profile photos, and other information are directly laser-etched into the core layers of the card, making tampering or scraping attempts impossible without damaging the card.

A secondary, smaller laser-engraved portrait embedded within the card provides an additional layer of protection against photo manipulation and identity theft. Starting tomorrow, JPN will issue the new version of the MyKad, which boasts 53 security features (up from 23 in the previous version). A total of 40 JPN branches across the country with on-site printing facilities are prepared to issue the new-generation MyKad on the same day, while those without printing facilities will process applications within five working days.
