iPhone 18 Pro review: the biggest upgrade Apple's made in years

Apple’s iPhone Handoff feature, which allows users to seamlessly switch between two iPhones using a single phone number, is now supported by T-Mobile in the United States. However, the carrier is charging a monthly fee of $5 to utilize this feature. While Verizon is expected to support the feature by the end of the year, AT&T has not indicated any plans to support it.

The iPhone Handoff feature functions similarly to the Apple Watch’s ability to switch between paired devices automatically. The new feature is available on any iPhone running iOS 27, including the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo models on day one. T-Mobile introduced the feature at the cost of $5 per month, which covers the additional service powering the experience on both devices.

T-Mobile is the only major US carrier at the moment that supports iPhone Handoff. While Telekom in Germany and EE in the UK will also support the feature later this year, AT&T appears to be neglecting the feature for now. A spokesperson from AT&T noted that while they see potential in capabilities like iPhone Handoff, their focus remains on delivering innovations that simplify life and keep customers connected.

The iPhone Handoff feature is not the only difference between using eSIMs manually through the iPhone’s settings menu. The exact mechanics of the transfer process remain unclear for now.
