Cross River 2027: PDP candidate, Archibong alleges plan to unleash cult violence

Arthur Jarvis Archibong, the governorship candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has warned of a plan to employ cult groups to incite violence before, during, and after the 2027 elections. Archibong addressed journalists in Calabar following an advertorial alleging his criminal past. He previously dismissed the claim and challenged anyone with substantiating evidence to present it.

Archibong affirmed that the state government intends to instigate violence through cultism, but he remains undeterred, stating that their faith in God will protect them.

Archibong further criticized the ruling party and its supporters for engaging in what he termed as "damaging personality politics" in the state. He urged the party to focus on issues rather than personal attacks and advised against provocation. He warned that any response from his camp would merely be a reaction to the administration's actions.

In response, the APC state publicity secretary, Emmanuel Inyang, denied any plan to incite cult violence during the general election, calling Archibong's allegations baseless. He dismissed his claims as indicative of a party unprepared to face the electorate. Inyang emphasized that Cross River residents remain loyal to the APC due to the governance implemented over the past three years. He advised the PDP to prepare for defeat at the polls.
