Plateau killings: IGP vows stronger police action against insecurity

Inspector-General of Police Olatunji Disu traveled to Plateau State on Wednesday following recent killings in various parts of the region, promising enhanced security measures and the pursuit of those responsible. Disu paid respects to the Plateau State Government, emphasizing the police's dedication to ensuring safety and stressing the importance of collaboration among security forces, government entities, and communities for lasting peace and development.

During the visit, Disu discussed the ongoing killings in Mangu and other areas, assuring the public of recent arrests and ongoing efforts to address the issue. He highlighted intensified community engagement and intelligence gathering to preempt threats and apprehend criminals, stressing the necessity of building trust between security personnel and local populations.

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, along with Deputy Ngo Josephine Chundung Piyo, commended the police leadership for their swift response to the security situation and their decision to visit the state personally. They expressed appreciation for the IGP's commitment to safeguarding lives and property, and the state government's emphasis on sustained cooperation between security agencies, government authorities, and local communities.

The Deputy Governor urged the IGP to activate the Mobile Police Barracks in Gashish, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, which has been dormant since its establishment, to bolster police presence and improve response capabilities in the region. She also cautioned residents to remain vigilant and refrain from actions that could exacerbate tensions in affected communities.
