Cross River 2027: Let’s debate issues, not resort to personal attacks – PDP’s Archibong tells opponents

Arthur Jarvis Archibong, the gubernatorial candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Cross River State, has urged his opponents in the All Progressives Congress (APC) party to focus on discussing issues rather than resorting to personal attacks and baseless accusations. Archibong addressed journalists in Calabar following an advertorial that claimed he possesses a criminal record. He affirmed that his public service record is impeccable and challenged anyone with proof of wrongdoing to come forward.

Archibong viewed the allegation as a deliberate attempt to tarnish his reputation before the 2027 gubernatorial election. He boldly declared, "I dare anyone with criminal records against me to make them public or forever remain silent." Archibong emphasized his commitment to honesty, integrity, and hard work, stating, "I am an honest, clean, and hardworking citizen of Cross River State and Nigeria."

He suggested that the advertorial was likely orchestrated by his opponents to counter his rising popularity across the state's three senatorial districts. Archibong interpreted the allegation as a sign of desperation on the part of his administration, citing widespread public dissatisfaction with its performance. He accused the government of maladministration, alleging a lack of adequate investment in infrastructure and human development for the populace.

Archibong further alleged that the advertorial exposed the "odious and evil fabric" of the administration, which he claimed promoted cultism.
