Anthropic to open Singapore office in October, hire locally

Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company, will establish a Singapore office in October, marking its fifth location in the Asia-Pacific region. Their other offices are in Tokyo, Bengaluru, Seoul and Sydney. The company, known for developing the Claude AI model, announced on September 16 that they will be recruiting for various positions in Singapore. Nine job openings are currently listed on their careers site, spanning roles in applied AI, finance, marketing and brand, public benefit, and sales.

Singapore is reported to be a significant market for Claude AI, ranking second out of 121 countries in usage relative to population. Anthropic's usage is 5.81 times higher than expected based on the country's population size. Chris Ciauri, Anthropic's managing director of international, stated that opening an office in Singapore, where Claude usage is among the highest globally, is a natural progression.

The company plans to collaborate with various organizations, from startups and digital natives to large enterprises and the public sector.

Anthropic highlighted Singapore's advantages, including a high concentration of technical talent, global businesses, research institutions, and a thriving innovation ecosystem. The Singapore government's focus on using AI to transform industries and enhance workforce capabilities, while emphasizing responsible adoption, aligns with Anthropic's approach.

Additionally, Dale Finlay has joined Anthropic as the general manager of ASEAN, based in Singapore, where he will work closely with customers, partners, and policymakers across Southeast Asia. Senior Anthropic leaders will visit Singapore to meet with customers, partners, and policymakers during the office's opening.
