Airbus Delivers First A320neo Built At New Tianjin Assembly Line To China Eastern Airlines

Airbus has transferred its first aircraft manufactured at a recently commissioned assembly line in Tianjin, China, to China Eastern Airlines. This marks a significant growth in Airbus' manufacturing presence in China and bolsters its worldwide production network. The Tianjin facility, initially established as Airbus' first overseas assembly plant for commercial aircraft in 2008, has already manufactured and delivered over 800 A320 Family aircraft.

The second production line, which commenced operations in October 2025, aims to boost output capacity and cater to the rising demand for aircraft in China and other regions. The new line augments Airbus' current network of ten Final Assembly Lines, including plants in Germany, France, the US, and China. According to Airbus' latest forecast, China is projected to need 8,830 new passenger aircraft within the next two decades, accounting for more than 20% of the global requirement for 42,060 new passenger aircraft during the same period.

This expansion of production capacity comes as Airbus reinforces its long-term collaboration with China's aviation industry. China Eastern Airlines, the recipient of this first aircraft, currently operates the largest Airbus fleet in China, with a total of 393 A320 Family aircraft, 56 A330 Family aircraft, and 20 A350-900 aircraft as of August 2026.

The new Tianjin production line is expected to meet customer demand more effectively while optimizing efficiency across Airbus' global industrial system, further expanding the manufacturer's capacity to serve the expanding aviation market, particularly in regions like China, where passenger traffic and fleet needs are expected to surge in the coming years.
