AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq: The forging of a Sardauna legacy

In a ceremony marking the formal turbanning of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara in Ilorin, it is evident that the historical and traditional symbolism of the Sardauna title would be prominently displayed. The Sardauna title, originally held by Sir Ahmadu Bello, is one of the most esteemed titles in Nigeria's traditional lexicon, embodying military authority, leadership, prestige, and service.

Kwara, situated uniquely at the intersection of northern and southern Nigeria, can be seen as bearing the dual heritage of the Yoruba Aare Ona Kakanfo and Sardauna traditions.

Governor Abdulrazaq's appointment as Sardauna of Ilorin extends beyond mere historical symbolism. Umaru Saro, the late business mogul and previous Sardauna, highlighted Abdulrazaq's promotion of Ilorin culture and traditions and his support for the Ilorin Grand Durbar. However, the governor's selection as Sardauna transcends these factors.

His leadership has also emphasized the role of youth in governance, with his political heir being just 40 years old.
