President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that Russia attacked Moldova twice because he was traveling through the country, according to an interview with CBS News. On September 9, a suspected Russian Shahed-type drone nearly hit Zelensky's plane as it was departing from Moldova en route to Norway for a meeting with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store ahead of King Harald V's funeral.

Zelensky and Store were on their way to Iceland and Canada, where they signed a 100-year partnership, before returning to Ukraine through Moldova. Zelensky expressed distrust of Moldova, alleging that they knew about the attacks. He also dismissed the U.S. announced energy ceasefire and stated that Russia's President Vladimir Putin does not respect weakness. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine never initiates attacks.
