'Let's make history' - Forest fans' plea over stadium expansion

Nottingham Forest supporters have penned an open letter to councillors, urging them to approve plans for expanding the club's stadium. Rushcliffe Borough Council's planning committee is set to deliberate on the club's proposals during a meeting on Wednesday. In June 2022, the committee granted permission to increase the stadium's capacity to 35,000, followed by another round of applications in January to boost the capacity further to over 50,000.

The Nottingham Forest Supporters Trust (NFST) implores the authority not to let issues related to transport and supporter movement on matchdays hinder the progress of the project. The club's applications encompass a bid for full planning permission to redevelop the Peter Taylor Stand and Trent End, the demolition of existing buildings/structures, and the redeveloping the Brian Clough Stand. Rushcliffe's planning officers have recommended the committee to approve the applications, provided certain conditions are met.

The NFST's letter to the committee frames Wednesday's vote as a "historic opportunity for our region," with the message from fans being "clear and overwhelming" in their support of the proposals. NFST chair Asif Naidu emphasized on Wednesday as a crucial moment to secure the future of the historic ground, stating that the club has outgrown its current stadium and presents an exceptional investment opportunity.

Although there are understandable concerns over transport and supporter flow, the NFST contends that these issues are manageable and should not be a barrier to granting the project the necessary approval. Naidu concluded, "It is the City Ground's time. Let's make history on Wednesday."
