Korea, Kazakhstan elevate ties to strategic partnership

Korea and Kazakhstan have elevated their bilateral relations to a strategic partnership during a summit between President Lee Jae Myung and Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The pair signed 13 agreements and memorandums of understanding (MOUs) covering various sectors, including energy, industry, technology, and cultural exchange. The summit occurred prior to the inaugural Korea-Central Asia Summit on Wednesday.

Among the key agreements, both nations committed to advancing their ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership. They signed MOUs related to oil, atomic energy, and the development of scientific and technological talent. They also addressed labor mobility under the Employment Permit System, as well as intellectual property rights, urban and infrastructure development, advanced air mobility, and renewable energy.

Additionally, the agreements touched upon digital forest restoration, cultural cooperation, and the preservation of historical sites connected to Korea's independence movement during Japan's colonial rule from 1910 to 1945. Kazakhstan's vast energy resources and potential in advanced industries position it as a crucial partner for Korea's economic security, according to President Lee.
