Education Ministry to set up technical committee for comprehensive review of CSSPS

The Ghana Education Ministry has welcomed the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Ghana’s call for a review of the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS). In a statement released on September 15, Minister of Education Haruna Iddrisu affirmed the Ministry's recognition of the need for continuous improvement and strengthening of the placement system.

The Ministry unveiled plans to establish a Technical Working Committee following the placement exercise to conduct a thorough examination of the placement process.

While welcoming the bishops' call for a review, the Ministry stressed that the CSSPS is fundamentally a merit-based system, prioritising merit over protocol in the allocation of qualified candidates. The Ministry reiterated that the objective of the system is to ensure that placement decisions are guided by established criteria, guaranteeing fairness for every qualified student within the approved framework.

The Ministry elaborated that the review will focus on enhancing transparency and accountability, as well as generating recommendations to bolster the credibility, efficiency, and fairness of the CSSPS. The Ministry also reaffirmed that placement through the CSSPS is free of charge, cautioning parents and candidates against paying fees or attempting to alter existing placements.

Any parent or guardian who possesses credible evidence of requests for monetary contributions regarding school placement is urged to report such instances to law enforcement agencies for investigation, with the assurance that the reporter's identity will be safeguarded.

The Ministry emphasized its commitment to the CSSPS's integrity, reaffirming that merit, fairness, and transparency will persistently guide the placement process.
