Nader Hashemi, director of the Alwaleed Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding at Georgetown, emphasized the "deep anti-Palestinian nature" of the US government under President Donald Trump.

The case highlights the targeting of Suri's wife, who is from Gaza, as a means to harass her husband, who is an American citizen. The ACLU is representing Suri, who is currently in a two-tiered legal fight as his federal habeas case continues while his immigration case proceeds in an immigration court.
