Gates Foundation warns AI could widen inequality as foundation pledges $1B to expand access

Bill Gates expressed concern that artificial intelligence (AI) could exacerbate inequality if not properly managed. In the Gates Foundation's annual Goalkeepers report, Gates emphasized the need for technology companies and world leaders to act now to ensure AI combats social inequities instead of widening disparities. The Microsoft co-founder pledged $1 billion over the next two years to expand access to AI technologies that focus on training models on local languages, improving health outcomes, upgrading educational tools, and informing small farmers' practices worldwide.

Despite U.S. international aid cuts, Gates Foundation CEO Mark Suzman stated that they will continue advocating for foreign assistance. The foundation aims to democratize the benefits of AI, as Gates believes it can either be the greatest equalizer or the worst source of injustice.
