Celtic legend Danny McGrain diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease

Celtic legend Danny McGrain has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease, the club has announced. The 76-year-old, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in Celtic's history and among the finest right-backs of his generation, has made over 650 appearances for the club and won 14 major honours. McGrain later returned to Celtic in a coaching role before becoming a club ambassador.

Celtic confirmed that McGrain has lived with the diagnosis for some time and continues to manage it privately with his family. Laraine McGrain, the player's wife, stated that they felt it was right to be open and clear about the diagnosis, as Danny has always loved helping supporters through various means. Celtic CEO Michael Nicholson paid tribute to McGrain, describing him as a true great of the game and vowed the club's full support to him and his family.
