Billy Horschel skips European flagship event with his PGA Tour card on the line

Billy Horschel, a top American player on the European tour, will miss the BMW PGA Championship this year due to his poor performance on the PGA Tour. Horschel, who has skipped the tournament every year since 2019, except for 2020 during COVID-19 travel restrictions, is now facing a significant setback. With his hip surgery recovery in 2025, he has not registered a top 10 this year and is ranked No. 100 in the FedEx Cup, putting his PGA Tour card at risk.

If he fails to secure a spot in the top 100, he will lose his card for the first time in over a decade. Horschel expressed his disappointment, stating he was devastated by the decision to skip the event. Despite starting the year at No. 53 in the world, his ranking has dropped to No. 162, and he now faces an uphill battle to regain his position.

Horschel's exemption from winning in the Dominican Republic this year expires, further emphasizing the importance of this tournament. Other players also have a lot to lose this fall, including Lucas Glover, Christiaan Bezuidenhout, and Jordan Spieth, who will all be competing in the inaugural Biltmore Championship in Asheville.
