Bills' defense escaped Houston. Detroit may not be so forgiving

Despite the win, Leonhard acknowledged that there were "ugly" moments throughout the game. The Bills allowed Houston to convert 9 of 18 third-and-fourth down situations, a concerning 50% success rate. Additionally, the defense committed five penalties, two of which occurred during critical third-down plays. Leonhard expressed disappointment, stating that the team's detail was lacking and that they had yet to reach the standards they expected from their first game with the new odd-man front defense.

Head coach Joe Brady echoed these sentiments, noting that the team is still learning how to utilize each other's skills and responsibilities. Leonhard admitted that he expected worse and was encouraged by the fact that the team had shown improvement. Some personnel changes were evident, with Ed Oliver, Rousseau, and Bradley Chubb seeing significant playing time.

However, Leonhard emphasized that there is still a need for more contributions from other players as the season progresses. The Lions' upcoming match against the Bills presents a challenging scenario for Leonhard, as he reviews the team's defensive struggles against Houston, particularly with regards to pass rush consistency and secondary performance.
