Zahid must face up to the reality within his party

Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, the current president of Umno, has firmly stood by his demand to dissolve Parliament. Despite Umno's current lack of control over only 30 parliamentary seats, Zahid persists in his stance, seemingly undeterred. However, the reality of the party's internal dynamics may not be as solid as he portrays. Various polls suggest that the Madani government is performing well, questioning the urgent need for dissolution.

Furthermore, the actions of some Umno leaders suggest that Zahid's approach may not be universally supported. Notably, deputy prime minister Zahid Hamidi and vice-president Johari Abdul Ghani have reportedly shown support for Anwar Ibrahim's government, indicating a potential rift within Umno. Similarly, state leaders like Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail and Saarani Mohamad have shown a willingness to collaborate with the PH-BN, displaying a mature approach to political stability.

These internal divisions within Umno could be the catalyst for Zahid's aggressive campaign against the government. However, even if the opposition is unified, Umno's support for the government remains unshakeable, with the party's resolution at the general assembly clearly favoring its continued alliance with the current administration.

The question remains: is Zahid truly backed by his own party, or is he risking a potential coup from within? The signs of resistance from Umno leaders seem to be mounting, and Zahid must address these internal challenges before continuing his political battles.
