'Same Old Story': Madan Lal Slams Asia Cup Trophy Controversy, Says India Should Not Play Pakistan

Former India cricketer Madan Lal has once again voiced his opposition to India playing Pakistan, questioning the continuation of the same old story following the latest Asia Cup trophy controversy. The 1983 World Cup winner took to social media to express his concerns over the repeated off-field disputes between the two cricketing nations.

"Once again same old story. If we are going to behave like this then we should not play Pakistan any trophies. I know its Board decision," Madan Lal wrote on X. The controversy involves the presentation of the trophy, which saw Sri Lankan players receive their medals while the Indian team stayed away from the ceremony. This incident has brought back memories of a similar situation in the 2025 Asia Cup, where India also declined to receive the trophy from Asian Cricket Council president Mohsin Naqvi.

Madan Lal had previously criticized Naqvi, arguing that he should have arranged for someone else to present the trophy to the Indian players, emphasizing that the focus should have been on celebrating the team's achievement in front of fans and the live audience.
