Poland, Ukraine denounce Russian strikes near border

Poland and Ukraine condemned Russian strikes near their shared border, targeting a Warsaw-bound train just 2km from the frontier checkpoint. The Ukrainian rail operator confirmed the attack, but no casualties were reported. Notably, former US CIA director David Petraeus and former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson were traveling on separate trains near the strike site.

This incident occurred as US President Donald Trump urged Ukraine to cease attacks on Russian refineries, which have been targeted to hinder Russia's war efforts. Russian drones struck western Ukraine earlier in the week, following US envoy visits to both capitals in an attempt to restart peace talks. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed Moscow deliberately targeted the locomotive to prevent the escalation of violence into Europe.

Poland's Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, called an emergency meeting in Warsaw, expecting further escalation from Russia in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, Russian officials maintained that the strikes targeted military cargo rail infrastructure from European nations.
