PAS demands the government explain why the Federal Territories' Compensation Body (LPWP) has delayed Najib Razak's request for presidential pardon six years after being accused of defrauding SRC International RM42 million. Takiyuddin Hassan, Senior Advisor, alleged that the delay will only occur if there is a request within the LPWP itself.

Consequently, PAS demands the government to immediately clarify this issue to the public as it is a matter of public concern that should not be concealed from the people, according to him. The LPWP proceedings are classified under the Official Secrets Act. On Friday, the Prime Minister's Department's Legal Aid Division stated that Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim had agreed to delay Najib's request for the next session.

The LPWP, headed by Sultan Ibrahim, is expected to consider Najib's second pardon request. Najib, 72, was convicted six years ago for embezzling RM42 million from SRC International, fined RM210 million, and sentenced to 12 years in prison, currently serving his term at Kajang Prison since August 2022. LPWP subsequently reduced his prison term to six years and fined him RM50 million.

In December of last year, Najib was accused of misusing power and embezzling over RM2 billion related to 1MDB, for which he was sentenced to 15 years in prison and fined RM11.38 billion. Najib is currently appealing the latter sentence.
