Najib pardon delay not automatic, PAS claims objections triggered deferral

PAS has called for the Malaysian government to provide an explanation as to why the Federal Territories Pardons Board has deferred its review of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak's application for a royal pardon. The opposition party believes the postponement was not an automatic process, but rather was triggered by instructions or objections raised by members of the Pardons Board or other concerned parties.

PAS Secretary General, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan, emphasized that this issue is of public interest and should not be concealed from the general public. He urged the government to clarify the matter immediately. Takiyuddin stressed that transparency is crucial in a case involving a former Prime Minister and that the public has a right to know the reasons behind the delay in Najib's petition.

The statement from the Legal Affairs Division of the Prime Minister's Department on September 11 confirmed that the 63rd meeting of the Pardons Board for Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya, chaired by Sultan Ibrahim, the 17th Yang di Pertuan Agong, had agreed to postpone Najib's petition to a later meeting date.
