N3,000 daily is enough for average Nigerian — Reno Omokri

Former presidential aide and ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, recently stated that an average Nigerian can survive on a daily income of about N3,000. During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Omokri discussed poverty benchmarks and the contrasting cost of living between Nigeria and the United States.

In a recent trip to Nigeria, Omokri and a journalist stopped at various locations to check the prices of essential food items, such as yam, rice, maize, and fruits. He claimed that the average person in Nigeria can live on that daily amount. Comparing this to the United States, Omokri pointed out that attempting to live on N3,000 per day in the US would be considered poverty.

He emphasized that context, including cost of living, is crucial when making such comparisons. Omokri also questioned the use of international poverty benchmarks, such as those set by the World Bank, as they do not accurately reflect the living conditions in Nigeria.
