Indore Horror: Floor Of IMC-Built Flat Sinks While Family Sleeps, Couple & 2 Children Escape Unhurt

Indore residents were shaken earlier this week when a floor collapsed in a municipal housing complex, leaving a family unharmed but disturbed. The incident occurred in Gandhi Nagar, where a three-storey building housed over nine families. On Saturday night, Kanhaiya, the son of Sunil, and his wife experienced a loud thud while they were asleep.

Upon turning on the lights, they discovered that the floor tiles had sunk inward by nearly a foot to two feet. Terrified of an earthquake, the family quickly evacuated their home. The location of the collapse happened near the Gandhi Nagar petrol pump, a site that has raised concerns among other nearby residents due to the existence of around ten to twelve similar municipal apartment blocks.

Municipal authorities responded swiftly to the situation, conducting inspections on Sunday morning and promising necessary repairs. Acting Mayor Rajendra Rathore also visited the site later in the day and directed officials to undertake the required repairs. The mayor assured that the cause of the incident would be thoroughly investigated.

Speculation among the residents has led them to suspect that rat burrows might have weakened the ground beneath the flat. The area is known for its considerable open land and a reported large rat population. It is speculated that the burrowing activity could have hollowed out the soil, which then gave way after rainfall. However, the exact cause remains unconfirmed and will be established following a detailed inspection by the municipal officials.
