Mir Raza murder case: Police surgeon says she received 'threats' after disputing first autopsy findings

Karachi Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed testified before a judicial commission on Monday, revealing that she had faced threats for disputing the initial autopsy findings in the murder case of young businessman Mir Raza Ali. The case has been under scrutiny since July 29 when Ali’s body was found in Karachi’s Gulistan-i-Jauhar with a gunshot wound.

Dr Syed pointed out inconsistencies between the first medico-legal report and photographs, leading to Ali’s body being exhumed on his family’s request. A second post-mortem conducted by a medical board revealed that Ali had sustained multiple injuries before his death, which ruled out suicide. Dr Syed said she was followed by a motorcycle for two days and received threats, putting her career at risk.

The police surgeon also mentioned that she had faced public pressure and had filed a complaint with the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency. Justice Omar Sial, heading the one-member judicial commission, asked Dr Syed if she wanted Rangers personnel deployed for her security, to which she declined. The commission has ordered the chief minister’s focal person to inform CM Murad Ali Shah about Dr Syed’s statements.
