A man named Opeyemi tragically drowned in Lagos River after attempting to escape from suspected cultists who were chasing him. This incident reportedly took place on September 12 while Opeyemi was on his way to buy an item in the Agility area of Mile 12. According to a police source, Opeyemi was caught and attacked by the group before he jumped into the river in a desperate attempt to flee.
Despite some residents attempting to rescue him, the attackers thwarted these efforts. Opeyemi's death has sparked conflicting reports, with anti-cultism advocacy platform Naija Confra claiming that Opeyemi may have jumped into the river on his own after becoming intoxicated. Independent verification of these conflicting accounts remains pending.
