Man drowns in Lagos river

A man named Opeyemi tragically drowned in Lagos River after allegedly jumping into it while being chased by suspected cultists in the Agility area of Mile 12. According to a police source, the incident occurred on Saturday, September 12. Opeyemi was reportedly on his way to purchase an item when some individuals allegedly began chasing him.

The men eventually caught up with him and attacked him before he leaped into the river in an attempt to escape. While rescue efforts were made, the attackers prevented them from reaching Opeyemi, resulting in his drowning. However, an anti-cultism advocacy platform presented an alternative account, stating that Opeyemi may have jumped into the river on his own, possibly under the influence of a substance, or that he was chased and attacked before jumping in.

Some witnesses claimed that even when people tried to save him, the attackers prevented them from doing so. The conflicting accounts have left the circumstances surrounding the incident unclear, awaiting independent verification.
