Malaysian woman nabbed with 8kg cannabis at HK airport

In a recent arrest at Hong Kong International Airport, a 33-year-old Malaysian woman has been detained for attempting to smuggle 8kg of cannabis worth approximately HK$1.6 million (RM830,000) into the country. The woman, who arrived from Bangkok, Thailand, on September 12, was intercepted during a customs inspection at the airport. Upon examination of her checked baggage, customs officers discovered about 8kg of suspected cannabis buds. She was promptly arrested and handed over to the authorities.

This arrest marks part of a series of incidents involving Malaysians caught with cannabis at Hong Kong International Airport. In July alone, three separate cases were reported. On July 30, a 27-year-old Malaysian man was arrested after customs officials found 3kg of cannabis worth HK$600,000 (RM311,000) in his baggage, following his arrival from Bangkok.

On July 16, a 19-year-old Malaysian man, who had traveled from Bangkok to Manila via the Philippines, was apprehended with 11kg of cannabis worth HK$2 million (RM1.04 million) in his checked baggage. The previous incident occurred on July 9, when another 19-year-old Malaysian man was arrested after attempting to bring 3kg of cannabis worth HK$500,000 (RM260,000) from Kuala Lumpur via Singapore.
