Malaysian woman nabbed with 8kg of cannabis at Hong Kong airport

In Hong Kong, a 33-year-old Malaysian woman has been apprehended by customs officials attempting to smuggle approximately eight kilograms of cannabis into the territory on Saturday. The woman had traveled from Bangkok, Thailand, before she was detained during a routine customs inspection at Hong Kong International Airport. During the inspection, officers discovered around eight kilograms of suspected cannabis hidden within her checked-in baggage.

The woman was subsequently arrested, and authorities are currently conducting further investigations. Hong Kong Customs has pledged to intensify enforcement efforts against drug trafficking through intelligence-driven analysis and warned the public against involvement in such illegal activities for financial gain or in exchange for carrying controlled items.

Under the Dangerous Drugs Ordinance in Hong Kong, anyone convicted of trafficking in dangerous drugs can face a fine of up to HK$5 million (RM2.6 million) and a potential life sentence. Recent arrests include a 27-year-old Malaysian man who was detained on July 30 for carrying about 3kg of cannabis worth HK$600,000 (RM311,000), and another 19-year-old Malaysian man arrested on July 16 for attempting to bring 11kg of cannabis worth HK$2 million (RM1.04 million) into the country.

Additionally, a 19-year-old Malaysian man was arrested on July 9 after arriving from Kuala Lumpur via Singapore with 3kg of cannabis valued at HK$500,000 (RM260,000) in his baggage.
