LP disowns Arabambi over Obi credential case

The Labour Party has distanced itself from former National Publicity Secretary Abayomi Arabambi, who filed legal proceedings to gain access to the academic and service records of NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi. In a statement on Monday, the party's National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, confirmed that Arabambi was no longer a member of the party after being suspended by the National Executive Council in March for alleged anti-party activities.

The suspension was later ratified by the National Convention on April 28, 2026, and the expelled members ceased to be party members. Asogwa clarified that while the party would not comment on the substance of Arabambi's case, he emphasized that Arabambi is not a member of the Labour Party and any representation otherwise is unauthorised.

Arabambi had filed three separate lawsuits against WAEC, UNN, and NYSC under the Freedom of Information Act, seeking records related to certificates allegedly issued to Obi. The NDC dismissed the suits, challenging Arabambi to provide evidence that Obi's academic credentials were questionable.
