Korean Marines participate in US, Indonesia-led multinational drills

The Korean Marines recently took part in the annual Super Garuda Shield joint drills, a two-week exercise led by the United States and Indonesia. The drills ran from August 31 to Friday in Lampung and Bandung, Indonesia, and involved troops from 15 nations, including Korea, Canada, and Japan. This marks the second time Korean troops have joined the drills, with their first participation occurring last year.

During the exercises, Korean Marines engaged in various joint activities, such as field training exercises (FTX) focused on jungle warfare missions and cyber drills aimed at familiarizing troops with both cyber attack and defense capabilities. Initiated in 2007 as a bilateral exercise between the U.S. and Indonesia to improve operational capabilities in jungle warfare, the Super Garuda Shield exercise has since expanded into a significant multinational operation.
