Harry and Meghan to have security review after return to UK

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, are set to undergo a review of their publicly-funded security after returning to live in the UK. This assessment, overseen by the Ravec committee which manages royal and VIP security, will examine the level of police protection required for the family, who now reside full-time in the country.

The committee will consider any risks they may face in their new home, including regular travel routes and school runs. Notably, the Sussexes have changed schools for their children Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, shortly after they began attending, due to concerns from their security team. Prince Harry had previously attempted a legal challenge to retain his police security while visiting the UK from the US, but the circumstances surrounding their return to the UK have created a different set of security considerations.

The Risk Management Board, comprising representatives from the Home Office, police, and the Royal Household, will deliberate on the threats facing the family and the level of police protection they may require. While no final decisions have been made, the family's return to the UK marks the first security review for Meghan since they ceased being working royals in 2020.

The move comes days after they announced their relocation, reigniting discussions about security arrangements for the couple.
