Ashanti Regional Minister Dr Frank Amoakohene has urged Ghanaians to back President John Mahama's administration in completing the Accra-Kumasi Expressway. He described the project as monumental, emphasizing its potential to revolutionize transportation and connectivity between the two major cities, thereby fostering the development of modern urban centers.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen, Dr Amoakohene warned that opposing the project would only damage the Ashanti Region’s development prospects. He asserted that the expressway is essential to meet the escalating transportation demands of Accra and Kumasi and alleviate persistent traffic congestion along the route. "The expressway is the way to go in building smart, modern, world-connected cities like Accra and Kumasi.

So, it is needed, it is well situated and it sits well with the needs of the people," he stated. Dr Amoakohene pledged the support of traditional authorities and residents in the Ashanti Region to ensure the project's successful completion. He assured that the region would collaborate with contractors to fulfill this objective. The Regional Minister elaborated that the project would feature flyovers at significant junctions, enabling motorists to easily access the expressway and reduce congestion.

He added that President Mahama has also promised military assistance to support contractors and maintain the project's progress. Dr Amoakohene underscored that political commitment is crucial for realizing significant infrastructure projects, asserting that a government with the right political will can achieve its development goals.

"Whenever there is a political will, whatever there is to be achieved in terms of development will be achieved," he emphasized. He further informed that the Finance Minister has assured that funds for the project would be allocated by December 2026. Dr Amoakohene subsequently called on Ghanaians to support the government’s efforts to complete the expressway, arguing that its successful completion would yield substantial benefits to the region and the nation at large.
