Browns coach Todd Monken asked if Deshaun Watson will remain starting QB after heavy loss

Cleveland Browns coach Todd Monken declined to comment on whether Deshaun Watson would continue as the starting quarterback after the team's devastating 34-10 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in their first game of the season. The Browns had selected Watson as their starter ahead of rising stars Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel.

However, Watson's performance left much to be desired. He completed 16 of 22 passes for 205 yards, threw one touchdown and an interception, and maintained a disappointing 97.7 passing rating. His quarterback rating was 34.2, one of the lowest among Week 1 starters. Despite his pass efficiency and a 38-yard rushing performance, Watson's lack of impact until the Browns were already down 31-0 in the third quarter was concerning.

Monken chose not to address the potential shift in QB status, stating he wanted to focus on the game itself. It remains to be seen whether the team will explore developing Sanders or Gabriel as alternatives to Watson in a season that is expected to be challenging.
