Bomb disposal squad detonates object after radiation scare

Police activated a bomb disposal team in response to a suspicious plastic box displaying the word "bomb" appearing in front of a store in Sri Petaling, Kuala Lumpur on an afternoon. The box, discovered by a woman just before 1 pm, registered high radiation levels according to the initial assessment. The city police chief, Fadil Marsus, confirmed that radioactive material was identified within the box following the preliminary investigation.

Emergency personnel from the Kuala Lumpur police bomb disposal unit, the chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive weapons unit based in Bukit Aman, and the Malaysian Nuclear Agency arrived at the location. The bomb disposal unit dismantled the object, which also contained several smaller boxes filled with miniature Lego pieces.

Post-disposal, the atomic energy department conducted additional checks that confirmed no residual radioactive readings were present at the scene. The incident is currently under investigation under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which deals with criminal intimidation. Earlier reports by Oriental Daily claimed that the box was found by a worker outside a shop, bearing the ominous inscription of "bomb."
