Bomb disposal squad detonates object after radiation scare

In Kuala Lumpur, a bomb disposal unit was called to the scene after a woman alerted authorities to a suspicious plastic box with the word "bomb" written on it. The incident occurred in front of a shoplot in Sri Petaling. The police received the alert around 1pm on this afternoon, according to city police chief Fadil Marsus. Initial investigation revealed that the box contained radioactive material due to high radiation readings.

The bomb disposal unit, comprising personnel from the Kuala Lumpur police, Bukit Aman’s chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive weapons unit, as well as the Malaysian Nuclear Agency, responded to the scene. They disposed of the object, which included several smaller boxes containing what appeared to be Lego blocks. Following the disposal, further checks by the atomic energy department confirmed that there were no radioactive readings at the scene. Fadil stated this in a statement.

The case is now under investigation for criminal intimidation, as per Section 506 of the Penal Code. Earlier reports from Oriental Daily suggested that a worker had discovered the box in a corner outside a store, with the word "bomb" written on it.
