Army urges vigilante group to share timely intelligence

Brigadier General Adebisi Onasanya, Commander of the Presidential Guards Brigade, has called on the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) to share timely and reliable intelligence with the military to combat insecurity. Brigadier General Onasanya emphasized the importance of grassroots intelligence gathered by vigilante groups for the success of security operations.

He stated that without timely and credible information, military operations could be compromised. The VGN's spokesman, Igho Akeregha, conveyed this message in a statement to the military's Commander-General, James Udoma, during a courtesy visit to the VGN headquarters in Abuja. Brigadier General Onasanya urged the VGN to share any intelligence they possess, promising that the military would act upon it and collaborate to eradicate the proliferation of light and small arms in the country.

Additionally, the Brigade Commander praised the VGN members for their sacrifices and contributions to security operations, promising to protect their personnel during future operations. Brigadier General Onasanya also warned of potential threats ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging the VGN to provide information on perceived threats to national security.
