Afenyo-Markin mourns Bernice Offei, describes her songs as ‘sermons set to music’

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has mourned the passing of renowned Ghanaian gospel musician Bernice Offei, praising her songs as "sermons set to music". In an emotional tribute on his official Facebook page, Mr Afenyo-Markin described the late singer, who died at 63, as a powerful source of faith, comfort, and inspiration. He stated that Offei's voice had carried the faith of a generation.

Mr Afenyo-Markin highlighted the impact of Offei's music, calling her songs such as Life, Hold On, and Kaa She Gbeyei, "testimonies expressed through melody". He noted that these tracks provided more than entertainment, offering solace during tough times and strengthening listeners' faith. The Minority Leader also celebrated Offei's achievements, recalling that her 2007 album Life earned her Best Female Vocal Performance and Songwriter of the Year awards at the 2009 Ghana Music Awards.

Beyond her music career, Afenyo-Marking highlighted Offei's accomplishments as a professional banker with Standard Chartered Bank. He described her as a remarkable individual, lauding the breadth of her talents and achievements. Mr Afenyo-Marking sent his condolences to Offei's family, especially her husband, following her death. Her passing has prompted a wave of tributes from others in Ghana's gospel music community, who have been celebrating her enduring contribution to the country's music scene.
