Nigeria sustains OPEC quota compliance as oil output hits 1.68m bpd

Nigeria maintained its compliance with OPEC's crude oil production quota in August 2026, with output reaching 1,677,777 barrels per day (bpd). This marked a 0.4% increase from the previous month's 1.67 million bpd. The Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) reported that the increase was driven by the resolution of operational challenges at the Erha field's Single Buoy Mooring, which had negatively impacted production performance in July.

The NUPRC attributed the modest improvement to the restoration of normal evacuation and production operations at the asset, which positively contributed to overall output during the month. Across most other producing assets, activities remained relatively stable, with operators focusing on improving efficiency, maintaining asset integrity, and reducing operational disruptions.

The Bonny Terminal led production with an average of 320.04 thousand bpd, while the Qua Iboe Terminal recorded an average of 171.72 thousand bpd. The August production was higher than July's 1,671,000 bpd and lower than June's 1,735,398 bpd. NUPRC emphasized the importance of timely intervention, asset management, and collaboration among industry stakeholders to safeguard Nigeria's crude oil production capacity.
