New Delhi Declaration: Prabowo Urges Real BRICS Action

The 2026 BRICS Summit concluded with the adoption of the New Delhi Declaration, a common path for transforming joint promises into tangible outcomes. The declaration emerged from the summit held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, India, on September 12, 2026. BRICS, a prominent alliance of developing nations, serves as a platform for economic, political, and security collaboration.

Originally consisting of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, the roster has since grown to incorporate Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and Indonesia.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi characterized the restricted 2026 BRICS Summit session as significant and productive, highlighting the need for international institution reform to enhance representation, responsiveness, and engagement rules. He stressed the importance of partnership and collective action to bridge the gap between commitments and results. In his address at the New Delhi Declaration's unveiling, Prime Minister Modi emphasized the responsibility to convert these commitments into concrete results.

President Prabowo Subianto of Indonesia underscored the significance of utilizing BRICS' collective strength to ensure that joint commitments yield tangible benefits to the public. He stressed that this collective strength should be more than mere words but should translate into opportunities for society. Prabowo further stated that BRICS' combined power should contribute to establishing a more equitable and balanced international order, with all member nations having a stronger voice in determining their future.

The former Defense Minister of Joko Widodo's administration concluded his statement by urging the collective power of BRICS to be effectively utilized.
