On Day 2 of BRICS Summit, PM Modi warns against ‘weaponisation’ of critical minerals

The families of those lost in the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack welcomed the unanimous adoption of the BRICS New Delhi Declaration, finding solace in the condemnation of the tragedy. Aishanya Dwivedi, whose husband was among the 26 victims, expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for addressing the issue internationally.

She emphasized that the development serves as a powerful example of global condemnation of terrorism, particularly when used to target a specific religion. Sanjay Dwivedi, whose son was killed, also voiced a sense of relief, acknowledging that diplomatic resolutions alone cannot eradicate terrorism. Despite this, he stressed that the fight against global terrorism is being led by the Prime Minister and the government, garnering support from prominent nations.

The BRICS countries, at the 18th BRICS Summit, adopted the New Delhi Declaration 2026, backing India and Brazil's push for greater representation in the United Nations, including the Security Council. The declaration also strongly condemned the Pahalgam attack and reaffirmed the BRICS commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms, including cross-border terrorist movements and financing.
